While I am not the first born child in my family, I would argue that I carry more of the first-born traits than my older brother does; the perfectionism, the desire to please, the need to comply and be good. When I was younger I felt like perhaps my need to “do no wrong” came from his desire to “be wild and free.” I didn’t want to displease my parents. Yet this notion that I should always do right has so sharply framed how I view Christ and my relationship with Him.
